Grab the file hispeed.005 from pub/hamradio/packet on hydra.carleton.ca.
It's a list of equipment options rather than a 'howto', but it will give
you some of the info you're looking for. I've got some post-Dayton updates
to do, so there should be a hispeed.006 along soon...

Subject: How to broadcast voice on Packet Channel(voice beacon) ?
To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu
Hi, netter,
How can I broadcast a voice on packet channel periodically.
My purpose is to advise the people not using packet channel for voice talk.
Any pointer is appreciated

The Israeli Army has apparently never heard of the ITU regulation
(it it exists), since they have lots of jeeps and trucks with
big HF whips on them. Handy for getting in touch with someone
at the bottom of the next canyon.

How to Use the WB7TPY
Packet <-> Internet Gateway
First, some brief operational notes:
(1) Messages must not contain any foul language, or commercial purpose.
(2) Messages can only be sent to countries that the United States has
a third-party agreement. All others will be destroyed.
(3) Messages from the internet should be less then 5K in length.
No files should be sent.
(4) If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me either on
packet radio: WB7TPY@WB7TPY.AZ.USA.NA -or-
Internet : david@stat.com
(5) Have fun. Use the gateway as much as you like. That is what it is
there for.

at the command line.)
OR
2) N0POY's Inet E-Mail address (not packet address - I am soon to
w/o a TNC!)
Thanks in Advance!

Subject: Need help with TPK v1.81!
To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu
Hello all.
I am trying to get TPK working with my local F6FBB pbbs, but I'm having a
few problems. The most difficult problem is getting TPK to log the
unproto message headers that are transmitted by the bbs to be logged to my
hard drive. I am using MS-DOS v6.2. I have set a path to tpk in
autoexec.bat as well as an environment variable. I'm also running
Doublespace. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to get this
thing working properly.
Thanks,
Don, N3KFH

Don, I run TPK here in Mobile, AL with our club BBS, W4IAX... It has been
my experience that the weak link has always been in the analog part of the
system... Do you get good connects and fast response from the BBS...???
i.e. not many retries on connecting and reading messages manually... If
you are getting anything at all logged to the hard drive then your problem
is in the TNC/RADIO/ANTENNA link... Without knowing any other particulars,
I couldn't tell you much more... I have friends who are running TPK with
DOS 6.2 with no trouble... (I am using 5.0 still -- solid) Hope this
helps...

That is not the way I interpret the POCSAG standard. The code transmitted
by a pager company is the CAP code for the appropriate pager. To do it any
other way would be a bit assinine because that would force the software
developers that work on pagers to include bulky decoding algorithms.
The full address of a pager is 24 (or is it 18) bits (if my memory is
correct). The address being broadcast is only part of the complete address
with the remainder of the address being which frame the message starts in.
I do not remember if the first part of the address determines the frame or
the last part - I think it is the first 3 bits.
Anyways, my memory is a bit faulty...
BTW... Why did you use an anonymous address to ask this question? It's not
as if POCSAG is classified information... ANY good technical library will
have reams on the subject.
Cheers.
